The project area; It is connected to the city center by a pedestrian artery, which starts from the Alaaddin hill, which contains the characteristic historical and geographical features of the city, and passes through Kültürpark in the southeast, and is reached by a pedestrian bridge. Thus, it is possible to define a new city square at the intersection of pedestrian axes and to match this definition with a focal building. The positioning of the city square and the library structure in the project area, which is aimed to be designed in dialogue with each other, and the mass decisions should be read as a holistic approach. The green amphitheater, which physically organizes the integrity of the City Square and the Library structure and aims for a relatively new experience for the urbanites, is the rarest element of this fluidity in the landscape. The move that invites the user to the lower ground level with the new topographic surface it produces is a preparation phase for the entrance of the building.
The library structure identifies its mass decisions and facade formation with the architectural elements in the memory of the city. The building envelope aims to enrich its permeability and usage scenarios with the semi-open street designed in-house, instead of presenting its closed and spatial potentials in a way specific to only the interior space. While this inner street represents a sheltered and public gathering space for the citizens, it also plays a leading role in the programmatic separation of the building within itself. In this way, the library function, which is reached from the lower ground level and has independent entrances from each other, and the municipal units with intensive use are separated from each other. The building, which describes independent blocks on the lower ground and first floor, combines with each other on the upper floors, bringing the user together with a singular and continuous circulation setup.
The amphitheater, which produces the visual and spatial transparency of the building in the interior, is designed as a backbone starting from the main entrance of the building and continuing to the last floor. In addition to the vertical circulation elements in the core of the building, this wide staircase surface, which includes all the circulation and organization in the cross-sectional plane of the building, also offers an alternative experience for free working areas. Apart from the free or quiet working spaces designed within the building, individual study and service areas customized within the amphitheater are included in the design setup.
With the open terrace areas created in the direction of the city square, the plan projection of the building is diversified on the southeast facade. Apart from the glass skylight surfaces that provide daylight to the interior defined on the roof, the mass takes its final form with a building space opening to the inner street of the mass. Konya City Library can be defined as a contemporary architectural pursuit that is shaped around an inviting interior space facing the square and built on personalized experience spaces.
